Train the Trainer (T3)

Are you a trainer or training staff that is looking for way to add some pop to your presentations? Do your meetings and presentations seem to drag on and students seem to lose interest? Not sure when to use power points, handouts, etc? What about staring the class off with an ice-breaker? Having a great start to any meeting or training event is like a comedian starting off with a great joke. It will make the audience pay attention from the start.

Doug Vairo can help you get there! Doug considers himself more than just a trainer or facilitator. He likes to use the phrase, Entertrainer or Facilitrainer.

Over the past 20 years, Doug has trained, facilitated and presented to tens of thousands of students ranging from Real Estate Agents and Loan Officers with 200 in a room all the way to presentations in front of small meetings to Top Morgan Stanley Executives with billions of dollars of investments under their care.

There are several types of trainings / presentations that an instructor may be asked to prepare for in the performance of their job. Many of the skills you will learn from Doug are easily carried over to each type of presentation with a few things being VERY different.

There are three important things that all trainers / presenters NEED to know BEFORE any presentation.

  1. Who is your audience? If you are conducting a 10-minute update for a few executives you will prepare way differently than you would for an audience made up of 200 consumers at a public class.
  2. Set-up for the class. Will I be using power point? Are there handouts that need to be prepared? Do I need audio / visuals to be set up in advance or do I have them with me and ready to go? Do I need to inspect the training area the day / night before the event? How long will I be presenting / speaking? And SO MUCH MORE.
  3. Am I acting as a trainer who is teaching skills or products or am I a facilitator relying on Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) to deliver the meat of the topic. Acting as a facilitator requires a different skill set.

Doug Vairo will customize this course to meet your needs. The class can be trained in a one to three-day class at your request.

One thing you will learn is how to manage time. Far too many trainers allow time to bleed away, thereby forcing you to RUSH through your material.

Doug will NOT waste time teaching fellow trainers how to hand out candy, form groups to “talk about what you just learned”, or do any number of time wasting, time fillers that add ZERO value to the students class.

MANY trainers do so many of these time-wasting modules so the students “feel” like they received value. Doug’s take on that angle is that it’s just a load of crap. There is no reason to make a ½ day presentation or class into a full day if the material can be covered fully and at a pace that is relaxed. Rushing through your material is a KILLER.

Finally, probably the MOST important thing that any trainer needs to learn is how to SEE the audience. In other words, interact with the class instead of lecturing them. Many trainers only see themselves. This is perhaps the hardest thing for trainers to learn. Doug was reviewed by Internationally recognized speaker and National Trainer, Dr. Dennis Cummins, and told Doug personally, he naturally possessed that very skill.

Loan Officer Training

Since 1998 Doug Vairo has trained thousands of loan officers throughout the USA. His trainings have ranged from small one-day sales classes to two week trainings.

Doug has also trained loan officers how to prepare and pass their NMLS Federal and State licensing course as well as the live continuing ed classes required by each state.

He has trained for companies such as DiTech.com, Countrywide Mortgage, Blackstone Group, GE Mortgage, Wells Fargo, New Century Mortgage and countless other mortgage companies nationally.

In 1999 he created an entire training department for a National FHA mortgage lender based in Florida. In addition to creating the two week training program he also purchased and installed an 84 seat telemarketing system with 200 telemarketers.

The telemarketing system ran 7 days a week on a national level and produced over 25,000 leads a month for the company.

This lead system tied into the two-week loan officer training help grow the mortgage company from 10 million a month to 130 million a month in under one year.

Doug will create a custom training for your company. If there are company guidelines and procedures that you want to be included in the class then you would need to supply a subject matter expert (SME) for that portion of the class. For example, if you wanted to include your companies workflow from the opening process all the way to the closing, it can be included in the training.

Realtor Training

This is NOT your typical Real Estate Agent Course where you learn to make calls for listings or how to handle objections. Granted, those are two VERY IMPORTANT topics and skills that a top producing agent would need to know, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of trainers of those topics.

Doug Vairos course is all about lifting agents up from average real estate agents to trusted advisors through knowledge of the mortgage process plus an understanding of who the agent represents in a transaction.

Since 2005 Doug has trained tens of thousands of Loan Officers and Real Estate Agents around the country. For the past 4 years Doug has trained thousands of agents in the Tri-State area of NY. BUSINESS DEVEOPMENT PLATFORM TRAINING REAL ESTATE AGENTS / CFP’s / CPA’s

How would you like to have 200 to 500 real estate agents / CFP’s and CPA’s go through your business development training platform EVERY month and LOVE to be there?

Sorry to sound rough, but the bottom line is that this course is for companies with vision. Long term lead strategies and building bonds with real estate agents, CFP’s and CPA’s.

Let me ask you this. Have your marketing efforts to real estate agents gone like this? You stop in unannounced to a Brokers office to meet whatever agents are in the office. Maybe, if you are lucky (or good) you get past the front desk and meet an agent or two and your pitch goes like this…… Hi, my name is ______ and I’m a loan officer (senior loan officer / manager / fill in the blank title) for Fly by Night Mortgage company. I wanted to let you know that we have the best rates and we close fast. Then you hand them a rate sheet (or something like that). If you’re smiling or laughing right now, you know what I mean.

As soon as you leave the office the agent will put your flier in the circular file (garbage can) for various reasons. One reason is that you HAVE NOT brought any value to them and you are asking for their business. Just like 100 other loan officers do. You have not separated yourself from the herd.

So, the next week you decide to go back to that office and along with the rate sheet you bring a box of donuts! You give the same pitch, leave the donuts and rate sheet and out the door you go. I hate to tell you this, but as soon as you leave, the agents will eat the donuts and use your rate sheets as a plate. Then they will file the rate sheet in the circular file.

Of course, this is not the routine for all loan officers. There are some that work hard, never give up, make some great contacts and build their business. I will tell you that for the vast majority of loan officers that is not the case.

I, Doug Vairo, have found that if a company can provide a platform to deliver several sources of leads that there are many average loan officers that excel. Some loan officers are great at doing deals but they are not great at bringing them in.

I will also tell you that of the two types of loan officers I mentioned above, only one type will really see the vision and value in this platform and they are the ones that never give up and look for multiple ways to bring in business.

For more than four years I, have worked this exact platform in the five boroughs (sans Manhattan – City to those that live here) and Long Island.

For five years I would get a call from the same headhunter saying that he had a company that was looking to do the platform the way I had it laid out. I would ask the headhunter the same question EVERY TIME. “Is the company looking for me to do the platform AND close loans? He would always answer yes. I told him that would not work because all the agents would want to work with me, their instructor and that I would not have time to close loans AND run a large platform where 25 loan officers could be benefiting.

Finally, I found a loan officer that ran his own branch that shared the vision and the rest is history. I explained to the loan officer that this would be a one-year project before the first class would take place. If you are not in it for the long run, we should shake hands and part ways now.

Today, we have just under 30,000 real estate agents in our database and have between 400 and 500 real estate agents go through our trainings every month. In addition to the classes for CPA’s and CFP’s.

I put this platform together from scratch, work it every day, write and train all the classes.

So, what is this Business Development Platform all about? In a nutshell, it’s like putting on a Broadway show. There IS work that needs to be done setting up the classes, writing the classes, contacting the boards, setting up venues, tracking spreadsheets, Constant contact email (or similar).

This is not an inexpensive training. This is not a training where you can take it and walk away and do nothing. You must be committed to this program.

Here is what you receive.

80 Hours of training throughout one year. The initial training will be at your location for up to one full week if you choose. The rest will be by phone, email, webinar, conference calls. Whatever works for you. You will learn how to structure classes, how to get sponsors to pay for the classes, how to follow up with the agents and MUCH more. In addition, for only the expenses, Doug will travel to your location and facilitate your first class.

This is available for every state EXCEPT NY.
